Tutorial: Making a flowerbed – Part 2 – Painting

In the last post, I explained how to make a circular flowerbed.  In this post, I will continue with how to paint it to give it a more realistic look like the left one in the picture below.

I used the following items for this project.

1.  Paint all over the flowerbed with a lighter color, especially paying attention to the cracks.

2.  Before the paint dries up, wipe most of it off with a sponge, leaving the paint in cracks.

3.  Now with darker paint, paint the main surface to add a dirty look to it. Stop when you think it looks good!

You can use more layers of colors to give your flowerbed more complex and detailed look, but I will leave it to your imagination.  A word of advice here, is to avoid using dark color for the cracks, as it tends to give more of a dungeon look than a Sylvanian look.
